Tháng 4 năm 2003, đài phát thanh BBC tại Anh quốc đã tổ chức một cuộc bình chọn sách được ưa thích nhất trong toàn quốc. Cuộc bình chọn đã được 750.000 phiếu tham dự.

Và kết quả là cuốn The Lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien) đã được bầu chọn là cuốc sách được ưa thích nhất tại Vương quốc Anh. Đứng hạng nhì là cuốn Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen). Trong khi đó Harry Potter (J. K. Rowling)đành xếp hạng thứ năm sau cuốn His Dark Material của Phillip Pulman và The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy của Douglas Adams.
